Traineeships

What is a Traineeship?

A traineeship is a skills development programme that includes a work placement. The programme provides a great foundation and valuable first step to accessing the industry you want to work in and will prepare you for the world of work by experiencing firsthand the working environment within your chosen industry. Additionally, you will have a head start and that will grant you a competitive edge when it comes to finding employment.

How does it work?

A Traineeship is a combination of college workshops and work experience. A 12-week program usually includes:

  • Training and no cost to you
  • 10 weeks college workshops
  • Functional skills maths and English qualifications
  • Employability skills
  • Support with travel, expenses and work benefits*
  • Level 1 related qualification
  • 70 hours work experience with the employer (usually 1-2 days a week)

Are you eligible?

If you are currently not in a job or have little or no work experience, are aged 16 to 24 and qualified below Level 4 (A level) then you can apply for a traineeship! You can also apply if you are 25 year olds with an education, health and care (EHC) plan.

What are the benefits of a Traineeship?

A program will provide you with:

  • Hands-on practical experience at NWSLC
  • Work experience opportunities with an employer
  • Opportunities to apply for current apprenticeship vacancies or employment
  • An industry-recognised level 1 qualification
  • Support with CVs and interview techniques
