Learning isn’t just for school leavers, a large percentage of NWSLC students are adults.

Whether your goal is to upskill, retrain, expand your knowledge, or pursue a new hobby, NWSLC offers a wide range of courses tailored to your needs. We firmly believe that learning and personal development should be accessible to all. Our courses cater to individuals at various skill levels, from beginners through to experts.

With many career routes and professions requiring degree-level studies, you may need a stepping-stone to help you qualify for higher-level studies. Our one-year* Access to Higher Education programmes lead to a Level 3 qualification and can be funded using an Advanced Learner Loan. 

We offer Access to HE programmes as listed below. They are designed to support adults to obtain the grades needed to then move on to higher education, which will support with your career development.

Programmes include:
• Pre-Access
• Health and Nursing

Some of our Access courses can be followed on a part-time basis, and you will also have the opportunity to improve your maths and English grades at the same time. 

We offer high-quality English and maths courses for adults. Good levels of English and maths are vital for all job roles, across all sectors. They enable you to do your job confidently and progress in your chosen career. Studying English and maths in GCSE or Functional Skills courses will enable you to build your skills and confidence, regardless of your starting point.

We have many levels available, you can study at Entry level, Level 1, Level 2 English and maths. Most are accredited, meaning you can walk away with a nationally-recognised qualification. We have expanded on our online courses also, allowing you to choose to study from home, or wherever you have an internet connection.

Friendly and supportive teachers and staff will establish your level and recommend the right course for you. You will be supported through your time with us and through to exams, and you will be given all of the help you need to succeed. No matter how long it has been since you were in education, our staff are ready to provide stimulating and engaging lessons which will inspire you to learn and achieve your aims.

ESOL, which stands for “English for Speakers of Other Languages” is a course designed for individuals whose first language is not English. This course intends to help non-native English speakers improve their proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.

What you will learn on the course:
• Language proficiency
• Grammar and Vocabulary
• Listening and Speaking
• Reading and writing
