NWSLC HND sports students visit Derby Univerity to investigate technologies used to support Performance Analysis.

During the trip, students experimented with 2-d motion capture, examining the biomechanics of the hip, knee, and ankle joints during a box jump. Analysing the angle of joints in the box jump take-off phase, students compared their techniques and worked great together as a team during the set-up of the equipment and exercise.

After this exciting experiment, students researched the benefits and set up of catapults, a global position system. Students analysed data, previously collected by LCFC Academy players in the Mac suite. During their research, they discovered more distance was covered per player significantly by a certain age group, due to a change in pitch size. This results in increased injuries in this age group, this data can improve injury prevention.

Emma Veasey, HND Sport Lecture, said ‘I would like to thank Tom Outram, Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics and Sports performance for the opportunity and his time. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
