Creative arts students at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College’s Hinckley Campus are celebrating the end of the academic year and showcasing their work online for the first time. Art, design and fashion students have been supported by local graphic design agency, Brio, to create a special web platform for their virtual exhibition.

The show, entitled ‘Uncover’ marks the culmination of two years’ hard work for final year  students from Levels 1 to 6 who are unveiling their work in ceramics, art, photography, fashion and design. The team at Brio have been working with college higher education student Lewis Dowell to develop the branding for their show which goes live on 1 July 2020.

Higher education students are also showcasing their final degree projects online in partnership with The Atkins, in a graduate show entitled ‘Fragment’. The exhibition title reflects the fact that students on the BA Hons Visuals Media course have been dispersed to work remotely as a result of the coronavirus lockdown. Their work spans themes ranging from the current pandemic, and the climate change agenda to issues including family, identity, memories, and loss. Students have utilised a wide variety of techniques including hand-printed textiles, sculpture, digital and traditional painting, as well as bookmaking and embroidery.

The Atkins, funded by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, is a centre for local creative and business communities based in the former Atkins hosiery factory in Hinckley. A Grade II listed building, the space has been redeveloped to provide creative studios, serviced office space, and an art gallery.

Carrie-Anne Abdulai, director of higher education and senior manager at the Hinckley Campus at NWSLC said, “These shows mark the culmination of months of hard work and dedication by our staff and students and will provide a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate their achievements and see first-hand the high standard of work that students produce at our creative arts campus in Hinckley.”

Prospective students who are interested in the creative arts are encouraged to take part in the college’s virtual open event on Thursday 9 July 2020 and can find out more on the college website at nwslc.ac.uk.
