Marion Plant OBE FCGI  represented NWSLC last Friday 21 October, about the need for road investment in the A5 Corridor at a conference hosted by Midlands Connect. Stakeholders from across the region came together in Hinckley to highlight the significance of the A5 and make the case for the strategic corridor being included in the Government’s third Road Investment Strategy (RIS3).

Speakers at the conference included local council representatives, technical experts, business leaders and local politicians. Nearly 100 people gathered to hear about proposed improvements to the A5 which sits at the heart of the “Golden Logistics Triangle” and is a key route for local, regional and national connectivity.

Midlands Connect have been working to secure investment through RIS3 to fund much-needed improvements between Hinckley and Tamworth and at Gibbet Hill, Warwickshire. The transport body hope that the Government will fund the proposed improvements which have been designed to benefit those who live and work in the region by making the A5 safer and less congested whilst ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place to support plans for future growth.

The conference comes as Midlands Connect releases new figures showing that every day, the cost of journeys along the A5 is £17,500 higher than it should be due to journey time delays along the route.

Marion Plant said, “ We have recognised the importance of the A5 corridor and have invested in new training facilities at the MIRA Technology Institute for advanced automotive engineering and at our newest campus CLEAR for the logistics sector.”
