Children and babies have enjoyed their first week in a state-of-the-art Nuneaton nursery facility that has been completely refurbished this summer. The Wise Owls nursery, part of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC), has been redesigned to offer bright, open spaces, and access to contact with the natural world. A new outdoor play area, vegetable garden and mud kitchen will enable children to immerse themselves in nature and enjoy the fresh air.

The new nursery, on the ground floor of the college’s LifeWorks building at its Nuneaton Campus on Hinckley Road, is filled with light, and glass doors provide access to a secure dedicated outdoor play area. With baby, toddler and pre-school rooms, the nursery, recently rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, provides part-time and full-time places for children aged 0-5 during term time and aged up to eight years during school holidays.

The facility benefits from:

  • Bright and spacious rooms bathed in natural light.
  • An outdoor play area with free flow access to promote physical activity and sensory exploration.
  • A large indoor hall for group games and special celebrations.

Commenting on their experiences on the first day of the academic year, parents were delighted with the new nursery space. Jenni Ashby said, “I love the way the space flows through for open play, especially into the outdoor area. It is great that the children can now go outside when they want as Ivy loves being outdoors.” Rebecca McNulty commented, “The professional look of the nursery now matches the talent of the staff – my son loves it!”

The relaunched nursery is part of a wider project to upgrade the college’s Nuneaton Campus. Over the summer, extensive works took place to replace the windows in the building and install LED lights and wall cavity insulation.

Natalie Dawes, Director of Estates for NWSLC: “We are thrilled to open our doors and welcome children and families to our new nursery facility. Our commitment to providing a rich, engaging, and fun learning environment is at the core of everything we do. Our nursery is designed to provide a nurturing and educational experience, fostering creativity, exploration, and a love for learning. Feedback from parents and carers has been very positive and we are looking forward to helping children to thrive in this wonderful new space.”

Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of NWSLC said, “The redevelopment of the nursery is part of an ambitious plan currently underway to invest in improving our college, ensuring that students at our Nuneaton Campus have access to the contemporary learning environments that they deserve and benefit from the same high standard facilities already available at our other campus locations.”
