As students across the UK celebrate their A Level and BTEC results North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) is opening its Hinckley Campus to support higher education applicants looking for a cost-effective alternative to going to university. The campus will be open for drop-in sessions on Thursday 18 August 2022 between 10am and 2pm.

Enquiries about the college’s higher education options can also be made on 18 and 19 August via an online platform that will provide guidance to anyone who is due to receive their Level 3 results.

Carrie-Anne Abdulai, Assistant Principal for Higher Education and Adult Learning at NWSLC said, “Our fees are lower than those for the majority of university-based courses and enable students to stay local. With the cost of living on the increase, it makes sense to look at higher education options that offer good value for money. NWSLC students can access help with tuition fees and apply for maintenance loans from Student Finance England in the same way as those planning to attend university. Our small class sizes and flexible study patterns cater for mature students who might be returning to education to change career direction, improve career progression opportunities or renter the job market following redundancy.

“Student satisfaction with the NWSLC higher education experience remains significantly ahead of the wider sector and when compared with other regional higher education providers and our local competitors. In the results of this year’s National Student Survey, the college’s HE provision was particularly noted for teachers’ ability to explain their subject, and provide helpful feedback while ensuring that courses are interesting. Students strongly agreed that their studies have provided them with opportunities to bring information and ideas together from different topics, enabling them to explore ideas and concepts in depth.”

“Course options are all highly focused on employment in a variety of industry sectors from engineering to creative arts, media and design, and healthcare. All courses are taught in industry-standard facilities and tutors have extensive experience in their field so they can advise about next steps and career routes.”

“As well as being a registered provider with the Office for Students we are an accredited centre for delivering professional qualifications for the workplace, including AAT, CIM and CIPD. We welcome enquiries from all prospective students whether they are returning to work, seeking career progression, or just starting out on their higher education journey.”

NWSLC offers an extensive range of Higher National Certificates (HNCs), Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) that can be converted into full degrees with a further year of study to gain degree accreditation. The college works closely with its partner universities Coventry University, the University of Warwick, and the University of West London to deliver a range of foundation degrees and bachelor’s degrees. Specialist provision for the automotive sector is available through the MIRA Technology Institute.
