Yesterday, our Catering department were at yet another competition, with one of our catering students Dean Burnham, down at Westminster Kingsway College in London. Dean competed in the finals of the Super Foods Peru Young Chef of the Year against 4 other young chefs, not just from other colleges but also from the industry.

Dean had a fantastic day and the dishes that he produced were to an extremely high standard. His menu was:

Scallops, infused Watermelon, Black Quinoa, Cancha Corn, Avocado and chilli

BBQ Short Ribs, Coffee Rubbed Sirloin, Purple Potatoes de Aji Amarillo Chimichurri, Squash

Chocolate, Crispy Passion Fruit Flavoured Banana with a Mandarin Ice Pop

At the Awards presentation at the end of the competition, Dean was awarded Second Place, an amazing award for such a high profile competition, where he competed against chefs from the industry too! After getting the feedback from the judges, the Catering department found out that Dean only just missed out on the first place by a point or two, as they all loved his starter and dessert, so the margin between first and second place was minimal.

Congratulations, Dean Burnham!
