Staying safe whilst studying with us

We appreciate that this is a very uncertain time and therefore want to provide you with reassurance regarding the planned delivery of our Higher Education programmes and the steps we are taking to protect the continuation of study for students in the next academic year, whilst we continue to mitigate the impact of the global COVID19 pandemic.

Here at NWSLC, we are committed to delivering as much face to face teaching and learning across the HE cohort as possible from September 2020, whilst ensuring that the safety of Students and Staff remains paramount within the constraints of the COVID19 pandemic that may exist at the time.

Based on current government guidelines, our campuses will reopen for teaching in the autumn Term.

Enrolment
Due to the current social distancing measures in place concerning Covid-19, this year the enrolment process will be online. The College has taken this step to keep everyone as safe as possible. If you have applied, you will receive further instructions from the College regarding confirmation of the entry requirements and the online enrolment process, following A Level and BTEC Level 3 Results Day on 13th August.

For students who are funding their course with a Higher Education Student Loan, the College will cross-reference enrolments to the student loan portal and will only complete the enrolment process once the loan has been confirmed. Students will, therefore, need to ensure that they have completed the full loan application process with Student Finance England before Enrolment. If you wish to take out a Tuition fee Loan and have not yet applied, visit www.sfengland.slc.co.uk/quickstartguides

Teaching, Learning and Assessment
It is important to note that the delivery methodologies listed in this report are temporary. The government’s restrictions on social distancing will be closely monitored to inform the return to college for the vast majority of our students, as soon as possible. The social, educational and wellbeing benefits of regular student attendance at our campuses are integral to the development of our students’ behaviours and attitudes, personal development and of the quality of their education.

To ensure that the quality, standards and continuation of study for all students, the following parameters will be in place to maintain the ability of students to complete their intended studies.

Delivery strategy: There are two main types for the delivery of learning, face to face or digital:

  • Face-to-face (On Campus)
  1. Seminar – teacher-led delivery
  2. Practical/simulated learning in workshops
  3. Targeted support work
  • Digital (Remote)
  1. Live taught session via Teams/Smart Rooms
  2. Recorded tutor-led sessions available to students, accessible anytime
  3. Flipped Learning / digital learning resources to access any time before face to face/live sessions

Learners in all cohorts will experience a blended approach to teaching and learning through a mixture of these teaching methods. Higher Education students can expect to receive at least one day of face-to-face teaching and learning in college, which will be supported by digital learning.

Accessibility will be checked at enrolment to ensure that support needs are considered, ensuring that students have access to the IT and software needed, specific to their course and ability, to engage in online learning.

Support Services and Resources
Study skills, IT, Maths and English Support will be available online and/or on-campus via an online booking system. Students will be able to access specialist resources subject to booking through an online system.

Government Guidance
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College will continue to respond to the most up to date government guidance over the summer period and will adjust the return to campus plan accordingly to enable provision to commence as planned in September.  We will share more information regarding timetables for HE programmes, specific to individual courses during enrolment in August.
