Theatrical Make-up

If you have a passion for makeup and a real skill at transforming the way you look, then a career as a makeup artist could be for you. Makeup artists are employed on a huge range of occasions including film sets, weddings, video shoots, television shows, modeling shoots and theatre productions.

Within a film or television makeup department, you could find the following roles:

  • Makeup designer
  • Special effects makeup artist
  • Body makeup artist
  • Wig and hair specialist/stylists

A recognised makeup qualification will give you a formal footing on which to build your career. Alternatively, you could consider a more specialised makeup course, such as special effects, bridal or media makeup.

This is a highly competitive and desirable industry, and the huge increase in online makeup tutorials, together with the popularity of beauty vloggers like Zoella and shows such as Strictly Come Dancing where makeup is a critical part of the show, has put careers in makeup artistry firmly on the map.
