Alumni Roy studied at NWSLC 6 years ago for his electrical installation level 3 course. After completing his level 2 plumbing course, his brother, Steven who also studied at NWSLC, and father mentioned the opportunities available in the electrical industry. With his family as inspiration and his passion to become multi-skilled, Roy decided to pursue a career in this path.

Roy said “The college offered decent facilities in the classrooms and the workshops. There were also three different tutors for each department, practical, electrical principles and design, and verifications, which I believe really helped with the learning as it separated the topics.”

“This course opened new career options for me in the installation and maintenance industry. The electrical installations level 3 is a foundation for most trades, with every trade needing electrical understanding for safe work.”

“I would say the best thing about the college is the tutors and facilities”

Since completing the course Roy went on to work in the commercial side of the electrical industry and has continued to further his qualifications with the completion of the Initial Verification, Inspection and Testing course.

Roy is now a Mechanical and Electrical engineer at Arcus FM. His job involves maintaining facilities for a large variety of clients such as supermarkets, warehouses and offices located across the UK.

Roy continues “My top tip for anybody looking to study the course is to research companies that can offer experience on the job. It will help broaden your knowledge and show the important practices you learn in the classroom.”

“The electrical industry can be as interesting as you make it, from constant development in new technologies, such as car chargers, security systems and surge protections devices, to debates about forever changing wiring regulations at seminars. There are also opportunities to start a company, while posting your work on social media and becoming renown for a high standard of work, along with the freedoms of being your own boss.”
