Josh came to NWSLC after finishing his GCSEs. He strived in his childcare GCSE and favoured assignments rather than exams.

Tutor Julie gives us an insight: “Josh has come really far, I’m so proud of him. He has an EHCP (education health care plan) and despite that he has done so well.”

We asked Josh how he found his course and being here at the college “The course has been interesting. I did childcare as a GCSE and it was one of my top marks. I do prefer the childcare side, I especially enjoyed the unit on learning difficulties. I got to do work experience with children with Learning difficulties, especially two autistic children, which was really good, they were aged three and four.”

Julie comments “In his placement Josh helped to get one of the boys to start communicating, which is a massive achievement. Their parents asked to meet Josh to thank him.”

Josh continues “I get plenty of support here at college. My first job interview went well. Julie, my tutor, supported me with interview prep and CV writing. Because of that, I got the job. After I finish my course I am doing my level 2 Childcare Apprenticeship in my new job.”
