Ian has spent the last decade supporting Foundation Learning students at the College with a range of skills including cookery, carpentry and life skills. A former student of the College himself, Ian trained as a chef and enjoyed a long career in the catering sector including at the University of Warwick. He also worked for a local conference centre, a number of hotels, and at Coventry City Football Club.

Following a change of career direction, Ian started as a teaching assistant within the College and soon progressed on to become a tutor, studying for his teaching qualifications, finding that supporting foundation learning students was highly rewarding.

As well as learning cookery, Ian’s students have been brushing up their woodworking skills following a donation of unwanted pallets that they are now busy converting into bespoke planters for use in a range of different areas. Ian has led the project to help refurbish the boundary fence, sight screens at Bedworth Cricket club, and to upgrade park benches, skating parks and other recreational parks around the community for Nuneaton Borough Council.

Ian said, “I have enjoyed passing on my knowledge of catering and general life skills because I see the students grow in confidence and gain the skills they need to succeed in the world of work.”
