Why did you decide to study an apprenticeship?
Denver (right) explains – I decided to study an apprenticeship in hairdressing because I’ve always dreamed of becoming a hairdresser. I am a more hands on person who likes to be creative with a good ethic and an apprenticeship suits me better. For me, the hairdressing apprenticeship allows me to gain a qualification, learn on the job and experience the real working environment which is what an employer looks for.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
It’s great that my apprenticeship allows me to be flexible as no working day is the same. I love meeting lots of new people and I find that I’m always learning and being educated on the job which increases my understanding and knowledge. Another benefit is that I’m also earning while I’m working which is fantastic.

What are your plans once you finish your apprenticeship?
With hairdressing courses you can dive into so many areas as there are plenty of pathways to pursue. I am undecided but I’ve always considered working as a mobile hairdresser or possibly doing theatre hair. This is a decision I can make later on when I have a clearer career route mapped out but the opportunities are endless.

What advice would you give to anyone considering an apprenticeship?
I would always advise to do what is right for you and be completely sure that this career path is where you want to be and to stick with the apprenticeship programme. When you are enthusiastic, dedicated and optimistic about something you will be much happier with your decisions and choices.
