This week, North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College’s Catering Team received their prize for winning Young Restaurant Team of the Year 2018.

The team, who won the award in July last year were presented with a Convortherm® ‘Mini Easydial’ professional combi oven supplied by Welbilt Inc, global leaders in foodservice equipment.

Representatives from Welbilt UK and the ‘Craft Guild of Chefs’ attended the College’s Nuneaton Campus on Thursday 14 March to present the prize.  Head Judge and Craft Guild Chair, Andrew Bennet, congratulated the student chefs from the winning team: Callum Wood and Dean Burnham. Welbilt UK are proud to support North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College with the combi oven from our Convotherm® brand.

Andy Daniels, Culinary Lead and Brand Specialist at Welbilt said: “We are extremely proud to offer this as a prize for all of the students’ efforts. The Convotherm® brand will also feature in the upcoming Young Restaurant Team of the Year Competitions so this is an ideal way for the students to become familiar with the equipment. The competition is constantly evolving and standards increasing so we hope this will really help them to develop their skills.”

Welbilt have announced today that North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College will be hosting the Southern Finals of the next Young Restaurant Team of the Year of the competitions, due to commence on the 1st May 2019.

Jason Thacker, Hospitality and Catering Lecturer at the College said: “Thank you to Welbilt and the Craft Guild of Chefs for attending today and presenting us with this prize. We hope that the equipment will be a lasting legacy from their competition win, one that can give real value to their learning and support them as they go on into industry. We’re extremely excited to be hosting the Southern Heats for the next competition and can’t wait to get started on the preparation.”

The College took part in the UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year competition last July. Students, Callum Wood, Dean Burnham and Caitlan Holland secured the top spot prize as well as the Best Service Award and the Ignite for Innovation Award. As part of their prize they also travelled to Columbia in September 2018 on a week-long study trip visiting the capital, Bogotá, the Granjer Luker cocoa research centre and plantation, and a coffee plantation.
