Eight out of ten students at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College would recommend the College to friends and family, according to a national survey of student satisfaction. This rating reflects an upward trend with student satisfaction improving by 20% over the last three years.

The College has worked closely with its students since it was formed two years ago following a merger of federation partners, North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and South Leicestershire College.

More than 1,800 students took part in the survey, run by the Education & Skills Funding Agency. The College now ranks 84 out of 170 participating organisations nationally in terms of student approval.

Marion Plant OBE, Principal and Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted with this result because it demonstrates the investment we have made in listening to our students and acting on the feedback we have received.

“We believe that the student voice is vitally important because it encourages students to build their personal confidence and self-esteem. Making their voices heard helps students to develop employability skills and enables them to develop a commitment to becoming active citizens.

“The higher levels of satisfaction evidenced by these results is a testament to the hard work of our staff in supporting them to feel part of the new College.”

The survey asked students to rate their satisfaction with the teaching they receive, how they are treated by staff, the quality of advice they are given on their next steps, and the support they receive in college. Students said that, in particular, they enjoyed their study programmes and felt safe in college.

In addition to promoting engagement with the national survey, the College conducts regular audits of its own, starting with its induction and enrolment process and continuing with all aspects of teaching and support.

Students take advantage of many opportunities to get involved throughout the year and the governing body of the College includes a student member. The Student Parliament meets four times a year and enables students to quiz members of the college management team on issues that are important to them.
