North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) has been successful in its bid to offer the new T Level qualifications and will welcome its first students on to the cutting-edge programmes in September 2022.

T Levels are two-year courses that have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work. Equivalent to three A levels, the new qualifications will be taken up by students who have completed their GCSEs.

T Levels will start to be rolled out across the country for the first time in September 2020. The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has today confirmed that NWSLC is one of 88 new providers to have been selected to deliver 18 T Levels from September 2022. The college will teach new subjects such as legal, finance and accounting, and manufacturing.

T levels are high quality technical alternatives to A Levels that combine classroom theory and practical learning with a work placement to make sure that students have the skills they need to progress and help to rebuild the economy. The first three T Levels for digital education and construction will be taught from September 2020 and a further seven will be taught from 2021 including three in health and science.

Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College said, “We are delighted to have been selected as one of the colleges due to start offering T Levels in two years’ time. Our selection reflects the government’s confidence in the high standards of curriculum delivery at NWSLC and the financial stability of our organisation.”

The new qualifications represent the biggest shake up of technical education in a generation. They will provide young people with the chance to get a great job, pursue further study or complete a high-quality apprenticeship.

“T Levels have been designed with industry experts to make sure that students have the skills they need to thrive in the workplace and give businesses the workforce they need to succeed.

T levels will play a vital role in making sure that young people gain the skills and experience they need to progress and help our economy to recover after the coronavirus crisis. Now the hard work will begin to make sure that we are ready to offer the best in teaching resources and facilities to support the new curriculum.”

T levels will be backed by an additional half a billion pounds investment every year whilst programmes are fully rolled out, alongside £133 million to ensure that students have access to industry standard equipment and high-quality facilities.
