Home Education

Home Education

Here at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, we have set up a centre for home-educated learners at our Nuneaton Campus and Wigston Campus.

WHO IS IT AIMED AT?

This programme is specifically created for learners who are in Years 10 and 11 and have been home-educated.

WHAT IS IT?

The home education programme is a part-time, 1.5 day a week provision designed to enable young people who have been home-educated to access GCSE English Language, English Literature and maths tuition and examinations.

Available at our Campuses in Nuneaton and Wigston, classes are held 1.5 days per week between 8.45am – 4.00pm with an additional 3 hours of blended, online working.

Classes are kept to a maximum of 15 students, making it suitable for students who struggle with anxiety, depression and bullying issues.

Working in small groups, learners will receive study support to ensure they achieve these vital qualifications.  Homework will be set which is compulsory and equals the same amount of time of in class study.  Learners will have the opportunity to progress to further study, apprenticeship or training.

Full funding is provided by the government, meaning no tuition fees need to be paid by parents or carers.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME COVER?

  • GCSE English Language
  • GCSE English Literature
  • GCSE Maths

Hear what our students have to say…

Jamaal P said, “I found the transition from primary to secondary school particularly difficult. I struggled to develop relationships with the teachers and students which lead to impacting on my education, so my Mum decided to teach me at home. The home-education scheme allowed me to integrate myself back into society. Alongside my studies, it was a great way to enhance my social skills and much easier to make friends with people who were in a similar situation to myself and making new friends. The help and support I got from the staff and students have helped me to take my learning further.”

Olive H said, “The best thing about the programme is the small class sizes and the one-to-one teaching time. The programme helped me to gain the confidence to decide what subject I would like to do. I hope to start a career in the creative sector and will start a course in art and design at the college in September.”

Deanna H said, “The teachers are great and help out a lot with our learning. They are really supportive and have helped me to decide on my next steps. College is one of my favourite places to come. It is a safe space where I can relax.” Deanna intends to study fashion and textiles or performing arts at college when she finishes her GCSEs.
