Earlier this year, two of NWSLC’s Level 3 beauty therapy students, Rosie Wright and Emily Adlam, made it through the competition heats to gain places in the prestigious final of the Ragdale Hall Spa, Student of Excellence Competition.
Rosie and Emily faced tough competition with students competing from twenty-seven other colleges, but successfully progressed to the final round. The challenges in the final included a one-to-one interview, a theory test, followed by a 60 minute manicure treatment and a 60 minute full body massage.
Both Emily and Rosie impressed the judges with their professionalism and skills. Emily was declared the overall winner, being awarded the coveted ‘Student of Excellence’ title, while Rosie gained a thoroughly deserved 3rd place.
All Top 3 students received an amazing prize package including advanced beauty training, a finalist trophy and certificate, an amazing spa day at Ragdale Hall and most importantly have been offered employment at the spa and a generous cash bonus on completion of one year’s employment.
Emily said: “At College we work on real clients – members of the public who come in to the onsite salons to get treatments at a discounted rate. It’s really rewarding getting feedback from them. It definitely helped us to prepare for the competition.”
‘’To have two students who not only made it through to the final but also placed in the top 3 in this impressive competition is amazing, and testament to the hard work and guidance of their fabulous mentors Rachel Atkins, Rebecca McNulty and Helen Trill. This is the 3rd year in a row where our students have dominated the top spots in this competition demonstrating that our “College of Excellence” for Beauty Therapy status is absolutely deserved. ’’ Claire Pearl, Learning and Skills Manager for Beauty Therapy at NWSLC.
