Apprenticeships

Logistics-Forklift, Truck & Powered Access

The rise of online shopping continues to fuel the growth of the logistics sector particular across the Midlands, home to many distribution hubs including Magna Park at Lutterworth and Daventry’s Prologis RFI DIRFT, two of the largest logistics parks in the UK. All the college’s six campuses are based within the logistics ‘Golden Triangle’ where the M1 and M6 converge. Warehouses cannot function without the critical material handling equipment designed to keep goods on the move servicing clients from manufacturers to supermarkets all over the country.

Distribution businesses rely on highly skilled teams of service technicians that can maintain service and repair, their fleets of forklift trucks. The college helps a number of high-profile companies to find and recruit new apprentices every year, helping them to gain the skills they need to progress in their logistics careers.

Apprentices are based either within their employers’ own workshops, or on clients’ premises across the UK, or in the field, available to travel wherever they are needed. Classroom sessions take place at the college’s Harrowbrook Campus or the MIRA Technology Institute, on a block release basis with five blocks of two weeks in the classroom and workshop. Apprentices get the chance to work closely with their peers and help each other on their learning journey.
