Graphic Design

Graphic design means creating visual content to convey a message using page layout techniques, typography, and pictures to meet a specific brief. It is present in virtually every aspect of our lives, from advertising to websites to company brochures and much more.

Good graphic designers have a range of skills, such as creativity, technical ability, knowledge of branding and marketing techniques and versatility. In the digital world in which we live, this is a field that is full of opportunities if you are ambitious. However, this popular profession has never been more competitive, and you’ll need to stand out from the crowd if you’re going to make a career as a graphic designer.

Some of the skills required to be a graphic designer include:

  • IT and drawing skills
  • Ability to find practical solutions to problems
  • Excellent communication skills

A job description for a graphic designer could include:

  • Developing, designing, and producing graphic art that satisfies a creative brief
  • Meeting tight deadlines and staying within budget
  • Knowledge of typography, colour, and production
  • Ability and willingness to quickly adapt to new technologies.

Most professional graphic designers have a foundation degree, HND or degree in graphic design or other art and design-based subject. You will also need a working knowledge of desktop design software, such as Illustrator or InDesign and image-editing packages such as Photoshop.
