Engineering

Skills shortages in the UK engineering sector, and an annual demand for 124,000 engineers each year makes this an appealing and attractive discipline. There are many branches of engineering including:

  • • Mechanical engineering
  • • Manufacturing engineering
  • • Electrical engineering
  • • Chemical engineering
  • • Civil engineering

Once qualified, you could work in the automotive industry designing and producing components for the latest Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, streamline the production line for Heinz or Nestle, or help Dyson or Siemens to bring ever-more innovative products and solutions to market. Engineers are in demand internationally and, once qualified, are in demand across multiple sectors in hundreds of job roles, many offering lucrative salaries.

Most types of engineering careers are built on basic skills that form the foundation blocks for future skills development and there is no shortcut to learning these; practice with industry-standard equipment and experience in the workplace will provide the start that you need to ignite the spark.
