The Importance of ‘Good’ Attendance

At North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, we believe in the importance of a high rate of attendance and punctuality in order for our students to succeed.

Our students, as a whole, have proved more likely to achieve their qualification(s) if they regularly attend classes and are punctual for their learning.

Students who arrive late have a huge impact not just on their own learning but also on that of others in the group.

In order to prepare our students for their next steps it is important that our students take responsibility and accountability for their own attendance and timekeeping.

Staff at the College will listen, understand and have empathy for individual situations as required, but will not tolerate poor attendance and timekeeping without valid reasons.

The minimum expectation for attendance is 90%, anything below this will lead to interventions at college to support you to improve and attend more.

If you have events or appointments that you need to attend, we understand, we just ask that you tell us in advance with evidence of your event or appointment and we can authorise your absence. You must notify us ahead of the planned absence and evidence must be provided such as an email or letter to confirm a hospital appointment, a driving test, an interview etc. Please speak to the teaching team ahead of your planned absence.
