Lewis, aged 18, from Hinckley started out by creating social media posts at his work placement with Fosse 107 radio and has now been given a drivetime slot broadcasting live traffic news. Lewis, who is in the second year of a course in creative digital media at the college’s Hinckley Campus, is succeeding on his placement in spite of working from home in line with COVID-19 guidelines.

Lewis was successful in securing the Fosse 107 work placement after being selected from six candidates and has spent the last year working with the Hinckley-based radio station on two mornings each week alongside his college course. He has worked on editing clips for the station’s social media feeds and website and researching and writing sports news. Working with presenter Mark Foster, Lewis was delighted to get the chance to read traffic updates live on air.

Lewis said, “I am really excited about this opportunity with Fosse 107. I had always enjoyed editing videos for friends when I was at school so when I found out about the creative digital media course, I knew it was the right one for me. I was so pleased to get the work placement with Fosse, I have really enjoyed the experiences it has opened up for me. The best event I covered for the radio was the Bedworth Civic Hall Darts Masters where I got to meet and interview some great sports personalities. I really enjoy the course too. The tutors are really supportive, and they give us some great challenges, allowing us the freedom to let our creativity run riot.”

Mark Foster from Fosse 107 said, “Lewis has become a valued and enthusiastic member of the Fosse 107 team and is eager to learn new skills. He has a good technical ability and has developed a sound understanding of how a commercial radio station works. He has shown an interest in presenting and is showing great promise. He has helped Fosse 107 by providing help in planning shows, events and updating the website.”

Lewis hopes for a career in the media, maybe even starting with Fosse 107 if an opportunity arises.
