Jake credits his college experience with helping him to recover after school bullying led to significant mental health issues. Jake completed a Level 1 course in IT and Media and said that the support he received in college both as part of his main qualification and with his English and maths helped him to get back on track.

Jake was recovering from an eating disorder when he started trying out some college options. It was only when he started at the college’s Wigston Campus that he started to feel that he was turning his life around at last.

Jake, from New Parks in Leicester, chose media and IT because he had always enjoyed gaming and wanted to improve his skills on the computer. In addition, the college helped him to secure a volunteering placement at the Leicester Haymarket Bus Station in a customer service role. He gained in confidence through helping others and started to feel that he was back on track.

“I had been very poorly following the bullying I experienced but then one day I started fighting back. I joined the college to build myself up again and really settled down at the Wigston Campus. The college was wonderful. The staff, reception and support staff were all so supportive, made me feel welcome and I cannot thank them enough for helping me. I now feel a lot better and would like to get a reception job to put my customer service skills to good use.”
