Liam Bradshaw

Liam started the Level 3 Preparation for the Police Service after leaving sixth form. Here Liam tells us why this was the right course for him…

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

I was interested in a career within the police service and the course was specifically designed to prepare students for being in the police service and to provide them with the relevant knowledge which would benefit their application.

I was already a police cadet with Warwickshire Police. The cadet programme lasted for two years and I attended the College almost every Thursday night during that two year period to carry out my police cadet duties so I was aware of the College and the facilities that they had. The course offered the CKP (certificate in knowledge of policing) as well as a further Level 3 qualification for preparation for the police service so I thought that it would be very beneficial if I chose to apply to become a police officer in the future.

BEST THING ABOUT THE COURSE?

The best thing about the course was the trainers, Alan Rymell and John Williams, as both were very experienced police officers who had a lot of knowledge and experience to share with students.

BEST THING ABOUT THE COLLEGE?

The best thing about the college were the fantastic facilities such as IT suites, gymnasium and fitness suite; these all provided us with the opportunity to get the most out of the course.

NEXT STEPS

Since completing the course I progressed to becoming a special constable with Warwickshire Police which I did for nearly two years. A special constable has the same powers as a police officer however they do not get paid for the service and must complete a minimum of 16 hours of duties per month. I have since become a full-time police officer with Warwickshire Police.

HOW DO YOU FEEL THIS COURSE HAS HELPED YOU WITH YOUR INITIAL GOALS?

The course provided me with a really good foundation of knowledge which I have used during my time as a special constable and now a police officer, and I have been able to further develop my knowledge during this time.

The Preparation for the Police Service has now been replaced with the Access to Policing course and the HND in Policing.
