Developed in partnership with NWSLC, CUEI and Ufi VocTech Trust
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) and Coventry University Enterprises – Interactive (CUEi) have combined their education and technology advancement expertise, in partnership with the grant funding body Ufi VocTech Trust.
We are working together with a number of manufacturing employer partners to create the AutoLive training tool to be used in the training of manufacturing operatives, whether they be new starters, agency staff, apprentices or existing staff.
The tool will be ready for launch in September 2022.
The tool uses a blend of immersive technologies to provide realistic, interactive and engaging experiences of the production line and its surrounding environment. The tool optimizes and adds value to the learning experience by enabling trainees to gain ‘on-the-job’ training in a risk-free environment, where they can learn by doing.
The manufacturing environment is rapidly changing. Customers are demanding innovative, high-quality products, with short lead times, requiring manufacturing operatives to execute an increasing variety of complex tasks.
Many organisations are dependent upon agency staff to respond to the peaks and troughs of demand. This can create a churn of staff and the need to train, again and again.
Manufacturing centres are increasingly becoming geographically dispersed, which can present challenges in the standardisation of training across multiple sites.
Traditional training techniques – manuals, class attendance and expert supervision are becoming less effective.
The challenge is to produce training systems which support appropriate and engaging skills development, relevant to a digitized manufacturing environment.
Autolive departs from traditional training limitations, with its use of immersive training techniques. In doing so it determines a vision to develop cost-effective, vocational manufacturing training, resulting in a highly efficient workforce, capable of enhancing productivity, quality and safety with the manufacturing environment.
Benefits to trainees:
Benefits to employers:
The Autolive vocational learning modules are aligned to core manufacturing techniques and can be applied flexibly to support:
Modules include:
Employers have the choice to use the tool for their own general training and on-boarding requirements or formal accredited learning through the apprenticeship. NWSLC will work with employers to develop and deliver the apprenticeship training programme, which maximises the use and benefits of AutoLive, alongside the specific needs of the employer and their apprentices.
The tool can also be used to attract potential candidates to the sector, introducing them to manufacturing operations and/or assessing them for suitability for job roles.
Autolive is the first of its kind, applied to the apprenticeship training of manufacturing operatives!
Our partnership combines the best of expertise in technology advancement (CUEi) and employer-led design, development and delivery of vocational training (NWSLC).
CUEi partners with Epic Games, developers of Unreal Engine, the sector’s chosen game engine and AutoLive’s software. The Institute of Digital Engineering describes CUEi as having a unique understanding of the software and manufacturing sector. CUEi’s prestigious projects include the development of bespoke VR training systems for Perkins, Nissan, BAE systems and Highways England.
NWSLC is a high quality Further Education College which recognises that traditional pathways in training have been augmented with alternative delivery options. NWSLC seeks to successfully strike a balance between providing inspirational training opportunities for trainees and acting as a progressive partner with employers.
CUEi and NWSLC have worked with employer partners in the manufacturing sector, to define AutoLive’s training content and support the process of testing and trialling the tool during the development stage.
The development of the AutoLive training tool has been grant funded by Ufi VocTech Trust, through a competitive tendering process. They have a vision ‘ to create a world where vocational skills, developed through innovative digital solutions, are celebrated and valued as the engine of their success.
